I wasn't being sarcastic. I wouldn't drive more than 30 minutes to check something like this out.

Don't then? It's not aimed at anyone from out of town. 16 teams...1 day event...connect the dots.

Re: TORONTO DOTA LAN TOURNAMENT!!!

imo 30 $ is way too much..it is going to be really hard to get 16 teams for a regional tourny....

The last toronto tourny was 10$ per person and they couldnt even get 16teams...lol

Apples to oranges...this is 2 games GUARANTEED per team (no shady silent auction buy in shit), no sketchy ass venue with shitty bathrooms, no 5am finish time, real tournament brackets as opposed to "hey let's just throw this team against this team". The last one was also very poorly advertised, and the guy's english was terrible so that contributed to the sketchiness of the last tournament + the low turnout.

HOWEVER. If there is enough demand to drop the entry fee, it will get dropped so that this tourney can happen. Just know that it will come out of the prize money.

Re: TORONTO DOTA LAN TOURNAMENT!!!

also, for the last tournament, there were 2 tournaments at 2 different locations at the exact same time and date. in total, there were more than 16 teams.

we have at our disposal

1. more advertising
2. months of prep time for both the organizers and teams
3. no shit covering the walls of the bathroom
4. a larger cash prize
(basically repeating what sooch said in an orderly fashion :D)

if it helps anyone, a single elimination is around $15. we're just offering a longer day, more chances, at pretty much the same price ratio. this event is mainly to bring together our Ontarionians and others together, get to know some people, and above all have fun. All-in-all, its to bring more people into Dota, and hopefully bring more people in Canada into the competitive scene. If you think trying to spread Dota is stupid...well thats your opinion, one most people with respect for the game does not agree with.

This is true. Hamilton had about 14 teams, and there was a Toronto LAN as well.

I will be hopefully coming to this with a team.

this is legit. i'm sorry for milkshake's behaviour. Technically, in the next week or so, it should be a headline on nadota/playdota/throneit/garena. we've talked to many of the dota admins already, as well as looking into sponsorships. the prizes are a minimum (meaning they wont get any lower), but we're constantly looking for more to add into the prize pool. but those numbers you see are the MINIMUM. compared to Lan ETS, our entry fee is lower, 1 day, NON-BYOC, larger prize pool.

Again, this is legit. everything is pretty much set, cept for the fact that for the next few months we're looking into increasing the prize pool

Re: TORONTO DOTA LAN TOURNAMENT!!!

I'd rather see it be two days tbh, give teams some time to rest in between matches, plan for finals etc. Have all but WB/LB/Grand Finals on the first day, all the finals on the second day imo.

Also, understand that LAN ETS is similar to dreamhack except not as large. It is BYOC and has multiple tournaments, well worth the money for the experience. A lot difference then just a single game dota lan.
[23:39] <diXi^KiDDo> LMFAO nice trying to flame me on nadota.
[23:39] <diXi^KiDDo> open your eyes already, notice that you're not half the support player i am.
[23:39] <diXi^KiDDo> you've been irrelevant on KC / eMg since you joined in the first place.

Re: TORONTO DOTA LAN TOURNAMENT!!!

ROFL if you're saying that turbo doesn't have shitty washrooms, i guess thats the kind've washroom you like, minimal lighting and shady as fuck?

If ppl are actually wondering if this is legit...turbo is an actual lan centre where i've played for the past 2 years (last time i checked had 38 computers). But they havn't had a tournament in 2 years (since march 08, we came 3rd as part of team RiB for reference), so during my reading week we'll ask the owner if this is actually happening.

The venue is close to a large theatre, food courts, and loads of chinese/korean eateries and there is a parking lot right next to it (not free). Rates go for 2.50/hr but you get an extra hour if you go for 5hrs ($10/5 hrs)
