The Sunday Evening Cup Series - Sponsored by Dotacast.com, a division of e-sports media!
Prize Pool
The SECS will now be awarding the top 2 teams a prize pool over the course of a 5 week series, awarding the top two teams 350 and 150 dollars respectively. Teams wishing to qualify for the playoffs will be required to have a paypal account as this is the only method of payment we will be using to disperse the prize money. The prize money will also only be distributed to one account. It will be the owner of the account's responsibility (team captain, manager, trustee) to distribute the funds to the other team members if they choose to split the prize money.
The intention is to have this prize pool be a recurring 5 week cycle with no breaks.
Seeding/Playoffs
The current SECS system will remain intact. Except now the points that teams acquire during each 4 week qualification stage will now go towards deciding which four teams will be invited to the playoffs on the 5th Sunday. The seeding of the qualifier tournaments will be determined by point totals in the last 5 regular tournaments. The seeding of the playoffs will be determined by the point standings of each 4 week series.
The playoffs for the prizes will invite the top four eligible (have paypal account) teams to battle it out the 5th Sunday at 5 pm EST. The semi-finals and finals will both be best of 3.
Signups
The signup system will also remain the same, with the rules being enforced more strictly for obvious reasons. Due to the expectation that more teams will be signing up for the series and it may require a rework of the invite team list, a system may be implemented to bounce "bubble" teams that find it difficult to break out of the bottom 8 teams in the point standings to allow new teams an opportunity to compete.
At this time the only resume building function available for North American Dota may be the dotacash.com team ladder. It is an open ladder format with hostbots that automatically track results, it is recommended that bubble teams and teams on the outside wanting to qualify sign up for their team ladder and play their clan wars with each other in a place where results can be compiled so we have some gauge to measure who deserves entry.
Expansion to 64 teams is an impossibility, as the SECS runs sometimes over 6 hours as it is.
Points
The point system will be fairly simple and pretty much identical to the SECS current point system. If you win a game you get 1 point, if you win a final you get 2. In order to collect the points for your team each week you will be required to submit the winning replay just like in the current SECS system.
Team Changes
We want to discourage the practice of NA Dota's worst vice, which is clan hopping and team re-rolling. In the event that a team changes its name (unless its changed to their newly acquired sponsor) their points will be reset to 0. In the event that a team splits, the team with the most players from the original will acquire the points. Teams are not allowed to merge points, so in the event of a merger, they will have to decide which teams points they will continue with.
Other drama and disputes will be handled in a on a case by case basis at my discretion with the help of the NaDotA staff if needed.
