[Q] Is DotA 2 really going to blowup?
yall talk about how dota 2s still in beta (which valve says its not and theyve exited the beta phase) and how its gonna kill sc2/lol in terms of esports and this games gonna be massive etc etc
invites cost 5$ which is 12x cheaper than a regular game. are we really expecting the playerbase to double/triple when dotas announced f2p
obviuosly it's going to grow even if no new players are introduced but are we really expecting gargantuan growthsrêål †råþ §hï†

Valve says there are currently 1 million players. And I assume another 1 million will be a conservative estimate once its released and double that if China adopts Dota 2. So, 3-4 million seems really plausible. But, I guess the true dream is somewhere around 10 million players.

I don't think the price is going to be that relevant. The game has such a steep learning curve that I don't think a lot of people are going to tackle it without a friend standing by their side for that first month or so of them getting shit on. And anyone with a friend like that most likely has access to a beta key anyways...
I mean, of course it's going to grow but it's not going to be some huge blow up.

Alright i might be wrong & confused But..
I dont think dota 2 is ever going to be as huge as LoL or even get close to LoL prize pools and players.
LoL got a lot of money out of the asian community, but i think their biggest sucess was making into the korean scene, now they are so huge there (like sc2) and they get a lot of money there.
Then dota is famous in china, But valve wont make that much money out of the chinese market because they need a middle man and shit to actually get money out of china. So of course the chinese company in charge of dota 2 in china is gonna get a lot of money and dota 2 its gonna be really huge in china. but it will remain the same everywhere else. its just gonna be like dota 1, for 1 euro/american tournament, there will be 2-3 chinese tournaments, with bigger prize pool.
So china alone is gonna have more players than everywhere else combined. The only way for the no-chinese to get something out of that big number is making world tournaments (since dota 2 unlike dota 1 provides better servers and now u can practically play against any1 in any part of the world and it will get easier with time)
pd: I'm refering to China/korea because both of them stream games in TV, which is the main scource of money since its better than a web stream.
