You seem to equate "mattering" with how much money the top 0.001% of a community's population can make playing a game per year. You play a game for fun. Some people have fun playing "competitive" games while others just like casual pub stomps. Its like the equivalent of playing baseball in your backyard vs. joining a league. In both cases, you have 0 chance of making a ton of money but, you might like one scene vs. the other. Its all a matter of preference.

Even the top paid professional gamers in the world can only play that game for so long. A person's reaction time slows as they age. This is why you don't see 60 year old pro SC players. They are all like in their 20's. If you think you can make a living just playing games all day, you are really looking at the short term.

Everything I said about demon applies to fear, I used to be very good friends with fear back in the day and I know exactly everything he has sacrificed to play this game.. He has basically done everything demon has but without quiting school and has not a dime to show for it

why don't you stop telling people to read and try reading yourself? hes saying its not worth it to give everything up for sc2 or any other game because a. you most likely won't make it b. it won't provide for you forever c. you can't play it forever

Cj entus is one of the lowest team in sc and idra played on the b team which makes really low salary idra makes money playing sc2 now i think but its nothing amazing.

... ok well u have some points right pro gamers do make a LOT but thats only the ones on the top who train over 12 hours a day the only time they get off is on maybe weekends depending on the team but in a interview Nada the most paid Sc player btw says how he would have liked to study and get a career rather than being a professional player. To stay on the top you have to work harder than others meaning most top players spend 14-17 hours with MAYBE 1 break day off and if you see their health condition its really weak. Also sc progamers make more money than dota because of its popularity in e-sports.

Also you can't say or prove that a game takes more skill than another game dota is completely different from sc or sc2 dota is 5v5 sc and sc2 is 1v1s.
and high apm doesnt mean you have skills.

Hasn't both Fear and Demon gone on all (Or mostly) expensees paid trips to other countries?

I wouldn't go to the extreme of dropping out, but they both have gotten things that hold value out of playing Dota.

Just thought I'd make a comment and make it clear for some people. As well as making it a long story short.

I was kicked out Sophomore year in highschool, THEN started playing Dota, realized my addiction after a year. Got readmitted, finished with a diploma graduating 09, rather than 08' since I was a year behind. Currently in College now. The end! But I think what you had to write was more of an opinion and everyone plays for a different purpose. Hobbies, just for fun, want to improve to play in better games, and maybe even get some-what noticed in the Competitive Scene. As for me, I play this because I enjoy the game. This has actually been my only real video game I enjoyed. (And finalfantasy 10). I have yet to touch another game ever for many years now. I also didn't like how you just assumed I threw away my social life to get good at it.. -_-

If you read anything I have said I am basically saying there is nothing wrong with playing this game for fun, but people believe that this game actually matters in the world of 'e-sports' there are people that play this game that actually believe that they will be making 400k a year like slayers_boxer, which is not the case you are not going to make shit and you are irrelevant in the world of e-sports. This game is fun for some, but others take it too seriously (see demon), I have made it my mission to make sure nobody goes down this path because believe it or not I have met some amazing people over these years of DotA and without them this game would of not been fun, so I am taking it upon myself to open their eyes and realize there are better things out there then becoming a 'pro dota player'
