    ITT: Trashbin Investment Ideas

I'm going to write down every consideration I have on this thread. I'll look back in retrospect and see how many of my calls were right, I don't always buy into what I consider.

Please no flame, if you can't say anything nice, best not to say anything at all. I might not have the most informed opinion about these things, so I'm going to just jot my ideas down here and others are welcome to drop their feedback or important info I might have missed.

I'm no longer doing options... I have been burned too many times making the right call but missing the timing so I'm going to go back to what I originally started on and stick with stocks until I get a better hang of timings and dealing with spreads.

    ----------

Might be around time for a rebound in precious metals, with the volatility in the global markets, people might look to move their money into more stable mediums. I like the balance sheet of one particular company SBGL, and their cash flow looks solid in comparison to their larger competitor AU. With that said, both are South African-based companies, a country strapped with large amounts of debt from foreign creditors, providing the US with a lot of exposure. There is a lot of risk priced into the EM debt of SA, a good hedge might be to short EZA.

Now and for the next coming months I imagine it would be a good opportunity to start purchasing small amounts of the small-cap energy stocks that have the best future outlook and may survive the coming wave of defaults. These companies have the highest upside if, once all the dust settles, they're still standing. I like SDRL, ORIG, and SWN. Money dropped in here will be sitting in the stock until 2018.

The general consensus is that Puerto Rico will default in the coming months, and restructuring isn't likely. It won't be on the same scale as Greece, but it is still significant. I would like to short BPOP, and I'm looking to see if I can short a mutual fund (never tried this before) FPRTX which has over 40% exposure to Puerto Rico issued bonds.

Undervalued tech stocks? I think there is a lot of hate on Pandora, Yelp, and Twitter. The future outlooks provided by the company may have scared off investors, but I see a good buy opportunity because I like the underlying tech they provide, they just need to integrate some updates that revamp the appeal to new users. I will await the stocks to drop a little further before considering to buy in. I think they still have much more room to fall.

I think the major decline in the industrial sector in China is going to continue hurting major importers of goods there. I'm holding my shorts for CMI @ 120 and CAT @ 90. Probably the only play I had last year that worked out well for me, however my positions expire in March. I'm considering selling the puts and rolling them over to end of 2016. I think CMI/CAT will both hit around the 40s at the very least before any uptrend occurs. The heavy decline in oil price and EM production is affecting new orders, and CMI has yet to make any significant cuts yet. Once that occurs, price will tank... I still read a lot of optimism from investors on boards believing that both shares have hit bottom and they continue to buy in.

I think most EM funds should remain flat if not slightly negative this year. It's a good opportunity to sell OTM covered calls, but little upside and requires decent capital.. Probably only will try this if I can get my account back up to to at least 50k, I don't think I would even try it tho.

Day-trading TVIX, I think at the rate it is going it's very consistent gains as long as you run a good system. When you sell on 15%+ days and buy back in on 15%+ corrections. Probably shouldn't risk reversing to short. Examining the futures markets for Asia and Europe before the close in US should also provide a ~somewhat~ reliable indicator of whether to hold or drop the positions. If you see blood on the streets, hold, otherwise drop.... Either way, find a system and stick with it. I tripled my 5k cash from last year out to 15k thus far with this, it's not bad, but I'm still sad that had I not sold my EEM shorts for 5k on December, I would have 78k instead to play with lol...

VLKAY is a good buy. I think the whole diesel issue is overblown, and once everything settles they're still be a top automaker. An issue with a small fraction of their vehicles doesn't justify a 50% loss to market value.

Baby boomers are starting to come into retirement. I imagine small cap companies that focus on providing services targeting that demographic should have a bright future outlook and good upside. I haven't found any companies I particularly like quite yet, but areas I'm focused in on are healthcare, financial planning, and technology assistance/communications.

I'm looking for a good fund that is more actively managed than VNM. I think Vietnam has a lot of growth potential in the coming years, unfortunately no US listed fund seems to correlate with the growth rate of the economy there. VNM is down 10% this year while the Vietnam stock index is up 6%. This is mainly due to holdings distributions, and not being actively managed. The only appealing alternative seems like a penny stock fund VNMHF or SAMSUNG ADR which has migrated it's labor to Vietnam from China so should heavily benefit in the coming year.

    I purchased 35 puts of FAZ @ 55 for 3.00 ea, with expiration @ Jan 22.

so if the FAZ index pops higher than 55 in the next 4 days, I'm out 10k, but if it drops like I'm anticipating to the 48-50 range, I'll sell and make a good profit. Futures are looking promising for tomorrow, let's hope the momentum holds for the coming week.

How will this affect the FAZ index?
And what are 35 puts of FAZ? Did you purchase 35 vials of faz semen?

Sold the FAZ puts today, ate a 1k loss and moved it to TVIX then sold that for a 1k gain. Netted even, then purchased 250 EEM puts expiring in 2 weeks.

The market had gapped more than I expected so I only filled for 125 puts. I sold 25 for a 300 dollar profit and I'm going to wait later today to decide if I want to reverse, hold cash, or buy back in.

I'm prob going to move over to IWM or SPY because I'll accrue less fees.

Went full retard today. I got flagged for day trading because my account is under the limit. I forgot you can't buy and sell in the same day when you're under 25k.

I might be locked out for the next 3 days but I'm going yo call to clear it. Today I made 1k locked in then kept 20pct of my holdings which didn't work out in my favor because the market ripped back up last second.

I was going to reverse my positions but the flag stopped me from trading.

buying rubles is the safe play once the oil pricing turns

if crude clings onto 20-25 for an extended period and the russian sanctions are dropped theres a very real chance to cash in once oil turns

IF the Russian sanctions are dropped lol. Very possible they could last for as long as the Iran sanctions did. I agree that RUR will recover in the face of an oil recovery, but I think there are better ways to cash in on the oil recovery than USD/RUR.
