    low background steel

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low-background_steel

Can we theoretically just start forging steel in outer space to increase our supply of noncontaminated steel?

    Also, asteroid mining.

If we mine iron from an asteroid and smelt it in outer space, would it have more or less contamination than on Earth?

Probably more expensive to implement your solution than to reclaim that metal on earth

    Nonetheless a fun question

Well we are going to be mining asteroids in the future regardless of for this specific purpose or not.

Some of those asteroids will have iron in them.

I'm sure we are going to have many mining operations, and each company will have their own smelters. At some point there will be a giant smelter ship or something probably that follows the crews around smelting while they mine.

I'm just wondering if they would be considered contaminated I guess.

probably more considering they dont have the shielding that the earth's atmosphere/magnetic field provides

pretty much everything mined out of Earth's gravity will stay there and be used to develop infrastructure and the like

I feel like this is super inefficient to the point that it's not even worth considering.

Going to outer space for steel is like going to China so you can get some KFC

I prefer American KFC to Japanese KFC and am not impressed with any Japanese fried chicken. Besides, seems a shame to eat fried chicken when Japanese cuisine is so good.

Chinese KFC tastes the most kfc ish out of all kfc chicken.

It's the kfc spice taste (sort of like subway for their bread) but layered over actually well made chicken and amplified 20 times
