There is definitely some appeal to the swiss format. Teams know that they need to be on during X hours on sunday no matter what - no early elimination. If the points system was as simple as 1 point/win, and teams accumulate points each week, then people would still try to win their last games.

Also consider that there might be other leagues/tournaments in the future with a more common format.

I mean, if you at look at it in an aspect of why SECS was created (practice for NA teams), Swiss style format would be the greater format. It would give all teams the same number of games with a determined winner. Single elimination format gives teams 1-2 games of practice before eliminated. I think if we wanted to stick to the original purpose of this tournament it should probably be changed to Swiss style.

There are certainly problems with the Swiss format. It's harder to run than single elim (because you have to do new pairings based on the results of the previous round rather than having teams just follow a bracket and more-or-less organize themselves), for example. And the timing has to be more strict. Mikey's point, however, is basically the reason I wanted to run a tournament with the Swiss format. Teams get to play 3-4 rounds no matter what (barring an awkward number of drops). This is the reason M:tG FNM's/prereleases/and more casual tournaments are run in this style.

It's actually possible to run it in a way that you 'cut' to the top 2/4/8/...2^n teams (obviously for larger tournaments) after a certain number of rounds and then have them play out the .../quarter-/semi-/finals as boX series (this is how larger M:tG tournaments, like the SCG Opens and Pro Tours, are run).

tl;dr running it Swiss style is better for the teams but harder for the administration. You would (might?) have to score the tournament a little bit differently than SECS has scored it in the past, and it would be awkward to run it Swiss some weeks and single elim on others (simply because of the way the scoring would pan out). If an administrator were fine with a little bit of 'awkwardness' in the seasonal scoring, then going single/single/Swiss (or whatever other pattern) is certainly possible, though.

i think Swiss format is way better since it allows every team participate equally in the tourney, not like single elimination, where inexperienced teams (or however you wanna call it) always get eliminated after playing one game.
